Economic momentum prompts positive remarks from Governor Perry

San Antonio aerial_CBDIn the midst of the national economic downturn which has made its presence known here locally, Governor Rick Perry acknowledged that San Antonio has been able to maintain some vital economic momentum.  Governor Perry credited business and political leaders for their efforts and abilities.

In the article Gov. Perry remains bullish on Alamo City, San Antonio Business Journal, August 28, 2009, Perry cited the two recent examples to support the point that San Antonio is making the most of its opportunities: Caterpillar, Inc. is to bring more than 1,000 new jobs to its assembly, test and paint plant in the satellite community of Seguin and Medtronic, Inc. is to create 1,400 new jobs over a five-year period at its Diabetes Therapy Management and Education Center located at the newly built Overlook at the Rim office building in Northwest San Antonio.  The Governor could have just as easily pointed to the recent relocation of Whataburger, Inc. to San Antonio from Corpus Christi or the nearly two billion dollars worth of construction going on at area military bases as the result of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) action.  The article concludes by quoting Gov. Perry as saying, “San Antonio is such a dynamic, economically diverse community…poised to continue its forward momentum, and I expect great things to continue happening there.”
