Public libraries are not included in the statistical set of competitive properties but the development of the 16,400 square-foot, $7.4 million Mission Branch Library along Roosevelt Avenue near Southwest Military Drive represents a major investment and a significant part of the Roosevelt Corridor Reinvestment plan.
According to the article Residents reinvesting in Roosevelt Avenue (The Southside Reporter, August 6, 2009), the San Antonio Planning Department and city officials have a vision for the revitalization of Roosevelt Ave between South Loop 410 and Brackenridge High School located just north of Roosevelt Park.
The Mission Branch Library will be located on the 26-acre site of the former Mission Drive-In which closed in 2007 and was subsequently purchased by the City of San Antonio.
Other South Side area projects include Mission Reach, the enhancement of an 8-mile stretch of the San Antonio River that spans from Lone Star Boulevard to Mission Espada, and the redevelopment of the Lone Star Brewery into a new urban mixed-use project.
