Metrostudy reports increased new home starts but closings down

According to Metrostudy, construction began on 4,227 new homes in the San Antonio area in the first six months of 2010.  The first half of the year saw 929 more new units than recorded in the same period last year.

Over the 12 months ended June 30, 2010, buyers closed on a total of 8,146 homes versus the 8,989 closings recorded over the same 12 months in 2009.  A major issue facing the housing market now is lot development. At the end of 2Q 2009, there were 26,037 developed lots on the ground in the San Antonio area. That equates to about a 44-month supply. As of 2Q 2010, there were 21,291 developed lots on the ground — about a 30-month supply.  Read more at Housing starts moving up in San Antonio, new report shows (SABJ, 7-30-10).
