The original art-deco style architecture of the historic Kress Building located at 313 E. Houston Street is visible once again. The 1939 building had previously been covered in black safety drapes to protect pedestrians from falling debris but the facade restoration that started earlier this year is now complete.
Building owner, Maryland-based Federal Realty Investment Trust, is renovating the building in preparation for a new restaurant opening. Dallas-based Texas de Brazil leased 10,000 square feet on the street level and plans to open in December. Plans for the upper floors of the building have not yet been finalized.
Additional activity along Houston Street includes two new boutiques – Folklore & Color at 228 E. Houston St. and Hip Dingo at 515 E. Houston St.
