Xceligent continues to provide competitive alternative

In a power broker move, commercial real estate data giant CoStar surprised the industry last month when it announced that it would acquire LoopNet.  What interested me more than $860 million purchase price was how this transaction would impact Xceligent – the industry’s other major provider of commercial real estate data which has been embraced by the San Antonio market.

Interestingly, LoopNet has held a minority stake in Independence, Mo.-based Xceligent which has provided funding to the company for the past four years helping support Xceligent’s growth and expansion into now 36 markets across the country.  Xceligent’s CEO Doug Curry said that CoStar’s acquisition of LoopNet will effectively dissolve LoopNet’s minority interest in his privately-held company.

According to Curry, Xceligent will remain independent and expects that current investors will continue to support the national roll out of new markets to reach the ultimate goal of providing service to the Top 100 markets.  To that end, the Austin market is set for re-launch in May and Dallas is slated next.

The Costar/LoopNet merger may shake things up a bit but we don’t expect to feel any disruption in service here in San Antonio.  In fact, Xceligent plans to release the much-anticipated new reporting system this fall.

Curry is more resolved than ever to provide a cost-effective alternative for fully-researched commercial real estate information and is encouraged by the tremendous national support from all of those who see the benefit of maintaining a little healthy competition in the marketplace.
