The Milken Institute ranked San Antonio No. 1 on its annual list of Best Performing Cities Index. The Alamo City topped the list of 200 large metros, ranked on economic growth and prosperity. The 2011 index takes into account jobs, wages and technology performance.
San Antonio jumped 13 places to land the top spot on the Milken report. The realignment of missions at San Antonio’s military bases along with $3.4 billion in related base construction contributed significantly to the area’s economy. In addition, advances in drilling techniques have made exploration in the Eagle Ford shale formation more attractive to oil and gas companies.
