Housing starts in 2014 totaled roughly 9,300, according to Metrostudy. The forecast for 2015 is for a repeat of last year. If that holds true, it would be the second year above the 9,000-mark since the area recorded nearly 13,000 starts in 2007.
According to Jack Inselmann, regional director of Metrostudy, the number of new home starts would be even higher if there were more in the affordable housing price range — under $150,000. The rising cost of building homes, however, is making it harder for builders to deliver lower-priced homes.
