Bypassing downtown, Pricewaterhousecoopers opens North Central San Antonio office

When it was looking for new office space in San Antonio to reestablish its presence in the city, Pricewaterhousecoopers wanted something convenient that was surrounded by millennial-friendly amenities and had a professional atmosphere.

The accounting firm ultimately signed a lease for 6,000 square feet on the ninth floor of Concord Plaza, 200 Concord Plaza Dr., a property in the northwest quadrant of Highway 281 and Jones Maltsberger Road. It checked all of the boxes for PwC — centrally located, accessible for clients and employees, close to interstates and the airport — and its close proximity to the Quarry, good shopping and lunch options made it the logical choice for its employees.

“We selected the area because, for us, the people we hire are millennials,” Duffey said, adding that half of the firm’s 20 San Antonio employees — a number expected to double or triple in the next three years — are less than 30 years old. “We wanted to be in close proximity to the Pearl, since with our new employees starting up, many of them are looking at Lower Broadway to relocate and live.”

This isn’t PwC’s first time in San Antonio, but the firm’s new office is part of its overall Texas growth strategy. Prior to closing in 1999, the PwC location in San Antonio was a small audit-only office. PwC’s new office, however, will provide the full spectrum of accounting services as part of the firm’s process of getting back into the market.

PwC’s North Central side address also speaks to the challenges that San Antonio’s center city continues to face.

San Antonio is at the point where more and more businesses want to be here and are willing to invest in the city’s continued growth. But in order to capitalize on that growth — especially within the central business district — we need more attractive places to put them.
