From Ditches To Riches: The Artful Restoration Of San Pedro Creek

New development to begin along San Pedro Creek

New development to begin along San Pedro Creek

A new River Walk-style development along San Pedro Creek is moving closer to reality. The goal is to complete the first part of the $175 million project in time so Phase 1 will open as the city celebrates its tercentennial in 2018.

“We hope to break ground this summer and start construction get the first phase done by May 18 2018 which is our 300th anniversary,” said Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff.

In a city known for its River Walk, county leaders say there is room for more development and that the San Pedro Creek Project will provide amenities to locals and tourists not found on its sister development on the other side of downtown.

“You can be down on the River Walk and you don’t really know you’re in San Antonio,” Wolff said. “On this project along the way we’ve got several linear feet of wall about how San Antonio started.” The county judge also said there is a build it and they will come mentality, noting that there are plans for development from private companies.

“I’m sure there will be some retail,” he said. “I think even in the Frost building, it’s going to be mixed development. But it’s going to have walkways. It’s going to be different.”
