The long-anticipated design for the proposed Frost Tower was released over the weekend, and with it will come an entirely new standard for downtown architecture.
The design will go before the Historic Design and Review Commission at its July 20 meeting. With the addition of 400,000 square feet of office space, the tower will boost the central business district’s supply by 20 percent.
Construction for the tower was born out of an intricate public-private partnership among Weston Urban, Frost Bank and the City of San Antonio. After a series of real estate swaps and development agreements, the end result will have the city taking over Frost Bank’s headquarters building at 100 W. Houston St., with Frost moving into 250,000 square feet once the new tower is completed in late 2018 or early 2019.
