REM’s mixed office, hotel development gets HDRC approval

cambria-hotelREM Hospitality has been granted approval by the Historic Design and Review Commission to move forward with an 18-story Cambria-branded boutique hotel on a 0.4-acre site north of the San Fernando Cathedral and a block southwest of the future Frost tower.

But unlike other hotel projects popping up across the city, REM’s will incorporate nearly 50,000 square feet of Class A office space.

The project was initially slating 35,000 square feet of office space along with the hotel, restaurant and retail uses. But after analyzing the potential demand, REM CEO Pratik Patel said that total was boosted to 50,000 square feet.

Along with the expanded office space, the REM development will include 185 hotel rooms, retail and fine-dining space. The company is in talks with well-recognized chefs based in Miami and New York to fill the 6,500-square-foot restaurant.
