Demolition began this week on the historic downtown Solo Serve building, which makes way for a nine-story hotel after years of sitting empty.
Vista Host, a hotel developer from Houston, plans to build a hotel on the site and has signed a franchise agreement for the property with a “nationally recognized dual-branded” hotel franchise, according to previous reports.
In modern days the building has defied attempts at development, despite its prime spot on the River Walk. A previous plan to build a 21-story hotel won HDRC approval last year but fell through when one of the investors got cold feet about San Antonio’s hotel market.
