Methodist Hospital-Landmark to replace Forest Park Medical

The former Forest Park Medical Center located at 5510 Presidio Parkway is getting a new lease on life courtesy of Methodist Healthcare.  After acquiring the real estate in 2018, Methodist recently announced plans to invest more than $50 million to redevelop the shuttered facility into Methodist Hospital-Landmark – a new community hospital that will house roughly 50 beds and emergency facilities.

Although plans are not final, the hospital is expected to be operational by 2023. The new hospital will be part of an expanding mixed-use development that includes Methodist’s headquarters.

Conveniently located near the IH-10/Loop 1604 interchange on the city’s Northwest side, the hospital is expected to draw a higher concentration of surgical medical cases, including more elective care.

Despite rising costs and supply chain issues, the health system continues to pursue additional expansion. This latest development comes as Methodist is advancing work on a new hospital campus in Far West San Antonio near Westover Hills.

Plans now call for a four-story, acute-care facility spanning approximately 180,000 square feet and a four-story medical office building encompassing roughly 125,000 square feet. Both structures are expected to be completed by 2023. The hospital could be expanded to six stories.

The Far West hospital alone, which will serve an area with a population that exceeds Corpus Christi’s, is expected to cost roughly $150 million to construct.
