Construction begins Tuesday on a three-story medical building in far North Central San Antonio that will give Christus Santa Rosa Health System and its Children’s Hospital of San Antonio greater brand awareness and a wider reach in the community. The 60,000-square-foot structure will be home to Christus’ new Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Health Pavilion-Stone Oak.

One of the key anchors of the pavilion will be the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Emergency Center -Stone Oak on the first floor. The building, which will cost between $13 million and $14 million to develop, will house a variety of pediatric services and family practice groups. It will also provide new access to adult primary care and include office space for Baylor College of Medicine physicians. …Read Entire Post

Andrea Smith, the local CEO and market president of BBVA Compass, has a vision for the bank’s footprint in San Antonio. And it includes consolidating nearly 80 employees, including its wealth management and commercial banking divisions, to be centrally located downtown.

BBVA Compass, a subsidiary of Alabama-based BBVA Compass Bancshares Inc., recently announced plans to invest in 9,600 square feet for retail banking space and 19,000 square feet for a corporate office inside the Weston Centre, revitalizing a ground-floor retail location that was vacated by Bank of America several years ago. …Read Entire Post

Dollar General to open $100 million distribution center in Bexar County

Pearl-like Development Planned for Eastside

Eastside developmentCity Council approved zoning changes that will allow local developer Efraim Varga and investment partners to construct a multi-block, mixed-use complex in the Eastside’s Denver Heights. A $43.5 million improvements package was approved in January 2015 that is slated to improve connectivity to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center expansion and Hemisfair Park.

Despite Setback, Lone Star Rail Moves Forward

The decision by Union Pacific to end its working relationship with Lone Star Rail District (LSRD) in February, was a blow in efforts to develop a passenger rail line between San Antonio and Austin.

Many board members said Union Pacific’s choice to stop working with Lone Star Rail was disappointing, but that they hoped the company would return. The completion of the impact study is crucial to the project, because it would enable future funding, including federal money. The district expects to finish the environmental impact process by 2018.

Whataburger buys property next to North Side headquarters

whataburger_concordWhataburger has bought a 2.4-acre property with a three-story building next to its North Side corporate headquarters through a subsidiary controlled by company executives.

The San Antonio-based burger chain bought the building at 400 Concord Plaza Dr. last month from OI Rehab LP, according to county property records. The 50,000 square-foot building is currently home to the Orthopaedic Institute.
