In the wake of restructuring, General Motors pulled out of the New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc. (NUMMI) joint venture with Toyota. Read more in The New York Times article dated June 29, 2009, As a result, the future of the Fremont, California NUMMI manufacturing plant is now uncertain. News 4 WOAI reported that Toyota is considering expansion of operations to include the manuafacturing of the Tacoma pickup truck at the San Antonio facility.
Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff and other city officials are working on an incentive package to offer Toyota in hopes of luring more jobs to the Alamo City. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, August 6, 2009, California is not going down without a fight to save the NUMMI plant but in addition to the possibility of expanding the San Antonio facility Toyota is also considering moving the plant to Indiana or Mexico.
