CPS Energy‘s Mission Road Power Plant has had quite a few lives, but its next one will be its legacy.
Plans were announced today to create an Energy Partnerships Innovation Center, or as CPS fondly named it, the EPIcenter.
(Clever, right?) The part-museum, part-think-thank, part-educational-resource concept has a $15 million commitment behind it, which means that this time, plans have a solid chance of being followed through.
The site, located south of downtown San Antonio on Mission Road will include an auditorium for conferences and events, collaborative and open work spaces, energy exhibits, education and presentation areas, office space, and a New Energy Economy think tank. And all of those will bring more people to the area.
If this EPIcenter turns out to be as big and well-received as CPS Energy is hoping, it has the potential to turn the vacant, passed-over part of Southtown into a thriving neighborhood where people would want to be.
