University of Texas regents approve nearly $20 million medical campus near Boerne

UT Medicine 2The University of Texas System Board of Regents has authorized spending nearly $19.5 million to fund construction of a new ambulatory multispecialty medical campus on Interstate 10 near Fair Oaks Parkway northwest of Loop 1604.

University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio President William Henrich, who has confirmed the regents’ decision in a letter to colleagues, said the planned I-10 campus is part of a larger clinical transformation that will allow UT Medicine San Antonio to expand its footprint and diversify the services it provides. UT Medicine San Antonio is the clinical practice of the Health Science Center’s School of Medicine.

In addition, UT Medicine has sought to expand the MARC’s presence outside the medical center. The funding approved by the UT System Board of Regents will allow UT Medicine to construct an approximately 18,000-square-foot ambulatory clinical complex northwest of San Antonio that will house exam rooms, conference rooms and physicians offices, as well as a full-service imaging center with an MRI, CT scan and general X-ray facilities. The clinic, which does not yet have a name, will be located in a high-growth area where there is increasing demand for health care services.
