Codeup signs lease in the downtown Vogue Building

The Vogue Building

The Vogue Building

Now that Codeup has a solid footing and an eye on future growth, it’s only fitting that the startup moves into some space of its own. Now that it has outgrown its space in the former Geekdom office at the Weston Centre, 112 E Pecan St, Codeup has leased 5,775 square feet in the Vogue Building at 600 Navarro St. in downtown San Antonio.

Codeup CEO Michael Girdley told me that the startup had gotten too big to move with the rest of Geekdom over to the Rand Building back in April, so it started looking for additional space around Houston Street, which he said is where most tech companies are now gravitating.

As for its new space in the Vogue Building, Girdley said it was the perfect place for the startup’s new digs. Codeup was founded in late 2013 to address what the company’s founders saw as a lack of quality web developers in the market. Through Codeup, students learn coding from instructors.

The Vogue Building was one of seven East Houston Street buildings San Antonio-based GrayStreet Partners acquired earlier this year. Other properties included in the downtown portfolio are the historic Kress, Frost Bros. building, the Walgreens building and the Hotel Valencia tower.

REATA’s Don Thomas, David Ballard and Justin Roberts represented GrayStreet in the new lease.
