Selma, a suburb of San Antonio, is about to get a bit sweeter now that a Mexican gummy-candy manufacturer has broken ground on a new manufacturing facility at the Olympia Business Park.

VIRC, LLC has broken ground on a multimillion-dollar, medical-grade manufacturing plant following its purchase of five of the 17 acres in the business park at 9411 Corporate Drive.

The facility, which is expected to be up and running in early 2016, will span 25,000 square feet and cost an estimated $3 million. Keller Williams’ Enrique Volkmer represented VIRC, and Biltmore Construction’s Jim Moore — the business park’s original developer and the developer for the new facility — represented the seller.

VIRC, which has a contract to supply gummy bears for H-E-B, spent a year looking for the right property. Volkmer said that the company had been under contract for two other properties before both fell through, and the land at the Olympia Business Park “showed up at the right time with exactly what they needed.”

The facility, the groundbreaking for which is this morning, has a design-build agreement between Biltmore Construction and Villa Park Architecture.
