The $7.5 million makeover of Southside’s Pearsall Park will be unveiled in a couple of months. The district was awarded $8.5 million for park improvements in the 2012 bond.
The 526-acre park will be the one of the city’s largest, and the only park in the city with a 5K, 10K, and single loop half-marathon course.
To augment the 231 acres of former landfill, the city purchased 268 acres from the Cox family for roughly $1 million. The park also includes 26 acres of the Leon Creek Greenway, according to the department of Transportation and Capital Improvements.
The final design divides the park into “bubbles” to reflect the shapes of the rolling hills around the site. Each bubble has a different focus such as fitness, family fun, and mountain bike courses.
