There is an aligning of stars in San Antonio, as multiple organizations are collectively spending hundreds of millions of dollars on new medical facilities for the region’s youngest patients.

The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio Health Pavilion-Stone Oak will cost $13 million to $14 million to develop and will be owned by Seavest Healthcare Properties LLC. The new building will span 60,000 square feet and provide a home for a variety of pediatric services and family practice groups, as well as office space for Baylor College of Medicine physicians.

The South Texas Medical Center is undergoing more dramatic change as work continues on a roughly $250 million expansion of Methodist Healthcare System’s flagship campus that will add about 500,000 square feet of space. One of the highlights of that project is a major expansion of Methodist Children’s Hospital, which is well underway.

Methodist officials said the project will reach another important milestone in September when the children’s emergency department gains 15 new exam rooms.

Methodist Children’s Hospital CEO Rob Lenza said that as San Antonio continues to expand its pediatric capabilities, more people will seek care for their families here. He added that the investments in pediatric care also will create more opportunities for the Alamo City to expand its role in research.
