SA university working with county to lease 10,000 sf in Federal Reserve Building

a&m san antonioTexas A&M University-San Antonio, on the hunt for more space as it transitions to a four-year program, could soon have a presence downtown if a deal with Bexar County comes to fruition.

The university is on the August 9 agenda for the Bexar County Commissioners Court to request an agreement with the county to occupy nearly 10,000 square feet in the former Federal Reserve Building at 126 E. Nueva St.

The space — housed in the 91,000-square-foot building owned by the county — would be allocated for the university’s instruction and academic research, and will provide Texas A&M the room it needs to exhibit a majority of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas’ 38,000-item art collection, which the university has on loan.

The lease agreement between Bexar County and Texas A&M University-San Antonio would be for an initial two-year term, with three one-year options to renew. The lease would encompass nearly 9,940 square feet for the university’s exclusive use, as well as an additional 1,184 square feet of shared space.

If approved, the agreement would be worth $25,438.72, according to the county’s agenda coordination form, and the lease will become effective Aug. 15, 2016 and terminate two years later.
