Capital One closing San Antonio-area branches

capital-one-worst-redesign-2008Capital One Financial Corp. is closing its seven San Antonio-area branches in June as part of an ongoing consolidation of its banking network.

The McLean, Virginia, financial institution began notifying customers by mail this month of the impending closings. Federal law requires financial institutions to notify customers and regulators 90 days before closing a branch.

The branch closings follow an industry trend as more customers use institutions’ mobile apps and websites to conduct financial transactions. San Antonio-based financial services and insurance company USAA is shuttering 17 of its 21 financial centers on April 28. Two of those closing are in the area.

Not all financial institutions have been shuttering branches, though. Frost Bank opened 10 branches in the state last year and plans to open more this year, said spokesman Bill Day. Frost currently has 133 branches in the state.
