CPS Energy to sell riverfront property next to Lone Star Brewery

cps logoCity-owned utility company CPS Energy is selling nearly 12 acres of riverfront property in one of San Antonio’s hottest real estate markets.

The property is at the southern edge of the trendy Southtown neighborhood between the Union Pacific Railroad tracks and the west bank of the San Antonio River where it has 950 feet of frontage. The neighboring property that was once home to the Lone Star Brewery is being transformed into a $300 million mixed-use development that includes entertainment, retail and apartments.

The utility company’s board reclassified the land as surplus property in December. Proceeds from the sale will go to CPS Energy’s general revenue fund.

Currently zoned as a commercial storage site, the property is across the San Antonio River from the old Mission Road Power Plant, which is being redeveloped into the EPICenter, a co-working space and think tank for renewable energy. The EPICenter and Gugert Avenue properties are linked by an old bridge that could be rebuilt as either a pedestrian or vehicle bridge.
