H-E-B has purchased 871 acres of vacant land on the East Side in unincorporated Bexar County, almost doubling its land in and around San Antonio as it faces increased competition from Walmart, Amazon and the newcomer Lidl grocery chain.
It’s unclear how much H-E-B paid for the land, which stretches along the west side Foster Road between Houston Street and Highway 87, just outside the boundaries of the city of San Antonio. It was assessed for a total of $1.8 million this year by the Bexar Appraisal District.
The land is about a mile and a half south of Interstate 10 and a mile east of Loop 410. It is two miles west of H-E-B’s closest store, at the crossing of Lord Road and WW White Road.
