$46M expansion for Methodist Healthcare hospital

Precursor $12.3M expansion to Northeast Methodist Hospital

Methodist Healthcare’s expansion project is part of a master plan to address rising demand. Last year, the Live Oak hospital treated more than 56,000 patients in its emergency department alone. Nearly 10,000 of those cases were pediatric patients. That’s more than half the volume of pediatric patients that all of Methodist’s other facilities combined — excluding its children’s hospital — treated in 2017.

The expansion will include building two new floors above the existing Northeast Methodist’s inpatient tower. This will accommodate 60 new beds in the hospital.

Northeast Methodist is also currently nearing completion on a separate expansion that will extend its emergency department’s footprint by nearly 9,000 square feet and include the renovation of another 4,800 existing square feet of hospital space. That project represents an additional $12.3 million investment and will include 17 new emergency rooms.

There could be more projects in the pipeline as CEO Michael Beaver said Methodist owns 14 acres adjacent to the Northeast Methodist hospital that will facilitate additional growth. “This is just the beginning of the master plan process that will take us through the next five to 10 years,” Beaver said.

Methodist is planning on starting its $46 million expansion January of next year.
