Despite Setback, Lone Star Rail Moves Forward

The decision by Union Pacific to end its working relationship with Lone Star Rail District (LSRD) in February, was a blow in efforts to develop a passenger rail line between San Antonio and Austin.

Many board members said Union Pacific’s choice to stop working with Lone Star Rail was disappointing, but that they hoped the company would return. The completion of the impact study is crucial to the project, because it would enable future funding, including federal money. The district expects to finish the environmental impact process by 2018.

Tenet’s Resolute Health Hospital is open for business in New Braunfels

Tenet Healthcare Corp. has opened the doors to its new Resolute Health Hospital in the Central Texas community, which experiencing significant growth.

The 365,000 square-foot hospital, which has been in the works for roughly four years, has 128 beds in all-private rooms and offers a broad range of specialty services, including cardiovascular, orthopedics, oncology, imaging, wound care, rehabilitation and obstetrics. Belk’s opens at New Braunfels Town Center at Creekside

Former Albertson’s to house New Braunfels’ City Hall

Finding new uses for vacant big box retail stores can sometimes be challenging.  The former Albertson’s grocery store (51,000 sf), located on 5.7 acres at the corner of Landa St. and Walnut Ave. in the neighboringCity of New Braunfels, has been vacant since H-E-Bpurchased it in 2011 to control competition but plans are now underway for the City of New Braunfels to purchase the building and renovate it for use as the new City Hall.

Creekside in New Braunfels gaining new retail tenants

The New Braunfels Town Center at Creekside, a large-scale retail/entertainment center, is bringing more tenants to this fast-growing city just northeast of San Antonio.  Phase II of the center will add some 200,000 square feet of space to Creekside, which spans 600 acres at Interstate Highway 35 and FM 306.

A large chunk of this retail addition will come courtesy of a brand new name for San Antonio-area shoppers — Charlotte-based department store Belk, which is set to open a new store totaling 95,000 square feet during the third quarter of 2013.

Largest Buc-ee’s store opens on Interstate 35 in New Braunfels

The $7.4 million Buc-ee’s Travel Center at I-35 and FM 306 is now open.  The New Braunfels’ edition of Buc-ee’s, a chain hailed as the greatest gas stations on Earth, spreads across 18 acres and boasts a 67,000-square-foot stucco-and-stone store with 60 gas pumps.  Buc-ee’s expects 5,500 cars per day to stop at the new store.

WestPointe Village coming to New Braunfels

Construction has started on Westpointe Village at Hwy 46 and Loop 337 in New Braunfels.  The first phase includes approximately 124,000 square feet including a new 88,000 square-foot H-E-B grocery store which is expected to be complete by late summer/fall 2010.  The center could ultimately span 200,000 square feet and will support the growing residential communities in the area. …Read Entire Post
