Elevated lanes planned for IH-35 expansion

The Texas Department of Transportation has unveiled plans for a 20-mile expansion of Interstate 35 that would make part of it a limited-access, non-tolled and double-decked freeway northeast of Loop 410 through Selma and Schertz.

First-phase construction on the $2.1 billion project is slated to begin around spring 2021 with completion expected in 2026 but the final phases have no timetable or dedicated funding yet, agency officials said. …Read Entire Post

Eastgroup Properties plans construction of Ridgeview 35

Mississippi-based industrial developer EastGroup Properties is planning another industrial park in San Antonio.  Ridgeview 35, which will consist of four buildings totaling 369,000 square feet, will be located across from Brooke Army Medical Center between Interstate 35 and Loop 410 along Binz-Engleman Road.

Power Center opening in Far West Side

80-acre development will feature 550,000 square feet of retail, including a long strip center and 14 pad sites

The Shops at Dove Creek is opening in a few months as the next power center on San Antonio’s Far West Side. This area has seen continued demand for big-box retail.

 

Portions of the land have been sold to users like KB Homes, Casey Development, and Flix Brewhouse LLC. Plans include a 170-unit subdivision behind the retail part of the development and an apartment complex.

Rackspace Acquired by Apollo, Staying in San Antonio

San Antonio-based Rackspace is being acquired for $4.3 billion, or $32 a share, by Apollo Global Management and affiliate investors and being taken private in a deal that will keep the company and its management team in San Antonio, according to a joint announcement made Friday morning.

The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter this year. Rackspace’s board of directors has unanimously approved the deal and have recommended that shareholders vote in favor of the transaction. Once the deal closes, Rackspace Co-Founder and Chairman Graham Weston and other directors will step down as the board is dissolved. Apollo and its affiliate investors, including Searchlight Capital Partners, will appoint a new board of directors which could include Weston or others currently associated with Rackspace. …Read Entire Post

Pearl developer Silver Ventures is asking the city to permanently close two streets on the Museum Reach across from Hotel Emma to make way for a new development. City Council will vote in August on whether to close Schiller Street and part of East Quincy Street and sell the land to Broadway SA Investors GP, a landholder for Silver Ventures, which developed the Pearl complex. …Read Entire Post

San Antonio to purchase piece of Steubing Ranch for green space

The City of San Antonio plans to purchase more than 200 acres of land on the North Side.

In the proposed agreement, the Classen-Steubing family agreed to sell 204 acres of their ranch to the city. The property is located off U.S. 281 and Loop 1604 in Stone Oak.

If the city approves the agreement, the property will be used as green space and the rest will be used for sports fields and hike-and-bike trails.

Despite Setback, Lone Star Rail Moves Forward

The decision by Union Pacific to end its working relationship with Lone Star Rail District (LSRD) in February, was a blow in efforts to develop a passenger rail line between San Antonio and Austin.

Many board members said Union Pacific’s choice to stop working with Lone Star Rail was disappointing, but that they hoped the company would return. The completion of the impact study is crucial to the project, because it would enable future funding, including federal money. The district expects to finish the environmental impact process by 2018.
